The mayor of Mykolaiv , Oleksandr Senkevych, said that drinking water in Mykolaiv should be available in February 2026.
Mayor Senkevych said this in an interview with hromadske.
- "The Reconstruction Agency is currently building additional treatment facilities. They are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year. "In January, we will start additional water treatment. I think that in February, the water will be available for drinking in the taps of Mykolaiv residents," said Senkevych.
It is also worth noting that Vitaliy Kim , the head of Mykolaiv Regional Water Management District, said in an interview a month ago that drinking water should appear in the taps of Mykolaiv residents in the next month and a half. Allegedly, this is exactly the time needed to complete the work at the treatment plant and receive official conclusions from the laboratories.
On October 7, Mykolaiv was successfully connected to the newly constructed water supply system, which now supplies the city with water. The system has already been integrated into the structure of Mykolaivvodokanal.
The key focus is now on improving water quality. The city's wastewater treatment plant has started a planned upgrade of the filtration system.
By the end of 2025, a modern filtration station is to be launched at the water supply system in Mykolaiv. Its key feature is full automation of the water treatment and quality control process.
Oleksandr Kolomiytsev, Head of Infrastructure Restoration and Development, explained the main idea: "The system will determine which reagents need to be added to ensure that the water is of the quality that meets the state standards of Ukraine." The station will also be able to automatically take water samples to determine its safety.
However, despite the introduction of a high-tech treatment system, there are still significant concerns. The cleanest water from the filters is contaminated when it enters the existing municipal water supply system. Vodokanal Mykolaiv admits that the quality of the water in the pipes currently "leaves much to be desired," which poses a problem for the ultimate efficiency of the new water supply system.
The new water supply system is 67 kilometers long and takes water directly from the Southern Bug River. The system consists of two lines with a total capacity of 120 thousand cubic meters of water. The first line is already completely filled with water, while the second is currently being pumped.
