Russian troops are attacking western regions of Ukraine with rocket-powered drones launched from Crimea and directed through the Odesa region along the border with Moldova.
This was reported by Serhiy Beskrestnov, an advisor to the President of Ukraine on defense technologies, known by the call sign “Flash.”
According to him, over the past few days, Russia has launched several dozen jet-powered drones from Crimea toward western Ukraine. They flew through the Odesa region and moved along the border with Moldova.

Four drones covered about 820 kilometers and reached Lviv. Several more flew as far as Lutsk, covering approximately 880 kilometers.
Beskreznov noted that to fly such a distance, the “Geran-4” drones maintained an altitude of 5–6 kilometers and traveled at an average speed of 320 to 380 kilometers per hour.
According to the expert’s assessment, the Russian army is testing the capability to attack western regions of Ukraine with“Shahed”-type drones from various directions. The actual flight range of the “Geran-4” turned out to be greater than previously expected.
Beskrestnov also speculated that the enemy may have reduced the drone’s payload to increase its flight range. However, this is merely a hypothesis and not confirmed information.
The “Geran-4” is a Russian jet-powered strike drone, a modernized version of the “Geran-3,” which the occupiers began using to attack Ukraine in May 2026.
It features a redesigned fuselage with improved aerodynamics, a reinforced structure, and a more powerful turbojet engine. The drone can fly at speeds of up to 500 km/h, maneuver at 300–400 km/h, and travel up to 850 kilometers.
It can be equipped with a high-explosive fragmentation, thermobaric, or enhanced thermobaric warhead. The Main Intelligence Directorate believes that Russia developed it as a countermeasure against Ukrainian interceptor drones, as its speed and maneuverability make it a more difficult target.
