International partners are helping farmers restore the irrigation system in Kherson Oblast.

According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, the Limanetska Water Users Organization recently signed an agreement with the USAID AGRO Program. The cooperation will help restore the Lymanets irrigation system, which was severely damaged during the war.

"The reclamation infrastructure of this system was destroyed by the occupiers, and the pumping stations on the Ingulets River were flooded due to the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. As a result, hundreds of hectares of farmland were left without water supply," added KHOVA.

However, thanks to the financial support of the partners, the pumping stations and pipelines of the system will be reconstructed, which will allow to restore irrigation on an area of 1,500 hectares. The restored system will not only ensure stable crop yields but also create new jobs in the region's agricultural sector.

Earlier, thanks to the support of UNITED24 and its donor, AWT Bavaria Ukraine LLC, as well as the military of the 18th Separate Bridge Battalion of the 1st Separate Brigade named after Prince Lev of the State Special Transport Service, the ducker of the Ingulets irrigation system was repaired.

In total, work is underway to restore irrigation to an area of five thousand hectares in Kherson Oblast. This is the way the region plans to minimize the damage to the agricultural sector caused by the Russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.

"This horrific environmental crime deprived more than three hundred thousand hectares of Kherson land of irrigation ," said KhOVA's head Oleksandr Prokudin at the time, adding that the USAID AGRO program consistently supports Kherson residents on their path to restoring food security.
