An attempt to bribe a detective of the Bureau of Economic Security was documented in Odesa. The man offered $10,000 to influence the course of the investigation into the illegal organization of gambling.

The bribery attempt did not affect the proceedings, and the suspect has already been notified of suspicion and the indictment has been sent to court.

According to the press service, over the past year, 66 illegal gambling halls were closed in Odesa, 21 premises were seized, and lease agreements with the owners of 17 facilities were terminated. That's why the organizers tried to bribe investigators.

Serhii Muntyan, the head of the Odesa regional office of the BES, said that the suspect tried to cancel the suspicion of one of the participants and change the qualification of the actions of another. The man was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - offering a bribe to an official. Law enforcement officers sent an indictment to court, and the sanction of the article provides for up to eight years in prison.

The BES emphasized that the bribery attempt did not stop the investigation: the indictment against two organizers of illegal "online poker" and the legalization of more than UAH 12.3 million is already being considered by the court.

Also in Odesa region, an official of the Chornomorsk customs post was detained on suspicion of receiving money from entrepreneurs for unimpeded clearance of imported goods. According to the investigation, the head of the customs clearance department No. 6 of Odesa Customs received money for each container and promised to assist in reducing customs payments. Several facts of receiving bribes in the amount of USD 2.9 thousand have been documented.
