In the Mykolaiv region, a soldier was tried for filming the movement of Ukrainian Armed Forces military equipment and posting the video on the popular social media platform TikTok. Instead of a two-year prison sentence, the court imposed restrictions on his military service.

The verdict was handed down by theVitovsky District Court of Mykolaiv Oblast.

The defendant is Dmytro Nuzhny from Zaporizhzhia, a driver in an artillery crew at one of the military units in Mykolaiv Oblast.

According to the court, between February 2024 and August 2025, while on duty, Nuzhny posted videos of military equipment on his personal TikTok account on three occasions.

On February 13, 2024, in Mykolaiv, he shared a video showing two T-72B tanks being transported. On December 21, 2024, in the village of Halytsynove in the Mykolaiv district, he posted a video showing a 155-mm M777 howitzer being transported by a KrAZ-5233 truck. Most recently, on August 16, 2025, he again showed a truck designed to transport the same howitzer.

The verdict states that “based on the content of the videos disseminated via the publicly accessible social media platform TikTok, it is possible to determine with a high degree of accuracy the location and movement of weapons across the territory of Ukraine.” This served as the basis for criminal liability under Part 1 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

During the pretrial investigation, Nuzhny pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor.

The parties agreed on a sentence of two years’ imprisonment; however, taking into account his military service, this was commuted to two years of restricted freedom, with 10% of his monetary allowance to be deducted and paid to the state.

The court verified that the plea agreement was entered into voluntarily, found no grounds to refuse its approval, and approved the sentence agreed upon by the parties. The verdict may be appealed within 30 days to the Mykolaiv Court of Appeals.
