SBU counterintelligence prevented a terrorist attack in Kherson by detaining two FSB agents who were planning an assassination attempt on National Police officers.

This was reported by the SBU.

Two unemployed residents of Kherson, recruited through pro-Russian Telegram channels, were preparing to blow up the National Police vehicles. For the successful completion of the task, the occupiers promised the suspects 'evacuation' to Russia.

To monitor the police, the agents rented an apartment opposite the National Police building, where they installed a hidden camera. According to the enemy's plan, the explosives were to be delivered by drones from the left bank of Kherson region, after which the attackers were to remotely blow up the car with law enforcement officers. In addition to preparing the assassination attempts, the offenders collected data on the deployment of the Defense Forces and were looking for new accomplices.

The CI detained both agents at their surveillance base. During the searches, the SBU seized equipment with evidence of high treason. The detainees are currently in custody and face life imprisonment.

Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kherson a hostile agitator who had been hiding in a basement for four years. He was campaigning to vote for joining the aggressor country.

According to the investigation, the 46-year-old recidivist agreed to cooperate with the enemy immediately after the seizure of the community and joined the occupation "election committee No. 809".

In September 2022, he and his accomplices visited the homes of residents of one of the villages in Beryslav district. Under the control of the Russian military, the perpetrators called on their fellow villagers to support the "accession" of Kherson region to the Russian Federation. During the fake voting, the collaborators distributed "ballots" to the villagers and falsified the results in favor of the Kremlin.

After the de-occupation of the right bank, the man fled to Kherson, where he hid from justice for several years in the basement of his relatives' house.
