Fontanka Village Council Proposes Major Street Renaming Initiatives

A number of deputies of the Fontanka village council propose to change the names of streets in the community from the old ones in honor of Russian poets, cosmonauts, or regions to new ones that are more relevant, in the deputies' opinion, given the current situation.

This was reported by Dmytro Kovbasyuk, a member of the village council.

It is proposed to change the names of the following streets:
Fontanka:

One street each in Oleksandrivka (Sibirska - Mykolaivska) and Svitlo (Uralska - Chornobaivska).
Kryzhanivka:

Nova Dofinivka:

Earlier, the Balta community announced its intention to change the names of almost 60 streets.

In Balta itself: Internationalna Street to Tykhu Street, Bilinskoho Street to Kozatska Street, Bozhenka Street to Fedir Baltskyi Street, Vatutina Street to Tsvang Street, Gorky Street to Levadna Street, Dimitrova Street to Hryhorovycha Street, Engels Street to Myroliubna Street, Zhovtneva Street to Evropeiska Street, Zhukovskoho Street to Ednisti Street, Zaliznyak Street to Blahovisna Street, Komsomolskaya Street to Soborna Street, and so on. Blahovisna, Komsomolska street to Symonenko street, Komunariv street to Vyvozhennia street, Kosmodemyanska street to Halyanova street, S. Lazo street to Chornovil street, Leningradska street to Zakhystnykiv Ukrainy street, R. Luxemburgska street to Krymsko-Tatarska street, Karl Marx street to Shymansky street, Kutuzov street to Shlyakhtna street, Matrosova street to Sadkovska street. As a reminder, Taras Kremin, the Commissioner for the Protection of the Ukrainian Language, reminded of the initiative to change the names of settlements that have not yet been translated into Ukrainian.

In the village of Kuchurhany, Odesa region, they will look for ideas for the design of a new flag so as not to repeat the national colors of the aggressor country.

In the town of Bilyayivka, Odesa region, Moskovska Street was renamed Kharkivska Street .

In February, the Zakharivka village council of Rozdilnyansky district, Odesa region, decided to decommunize Valentyna Tereshkova Street in the village of Balashove.

In September 2021, the Commission on the Naming (Renaming) of Streets, Other Objects, and Installed Memorials of the Fontanka Village Council decided to rename Tereshkova Street in the villages of Fontanka, Kryzhanivka, and Nova Dofinivka.

On September 10, 2021, public hearings were held in the meeting room of the Reniia City Council of Odesa Oblast on the renaming of streets and lanes in the community's settlements. Proposals to rename six streets in the city of Reni, two streets and one lane in the village of Dolynske, and one street in the village of Kotlovyna were presented to the public.
