A documentary film about the rituals, crafts and cuisine of the Crimean Tatars premiered in Kyiv. The film shows how the culture of the indigenous people is preserved and lives on today - through people who pass on traditions from generation to generation.
This was reported by QIRIM.News.
The Crimean House hosted the premiere of the documentary film "Living Heritage of Crimea. Traditions" dedicated to the culture, life and customs of the Crimean Tatars. The main goal of the project is to convey the depth and sophistication of Crimean Tatar culture, its connection with everyday life and the people who preserve the heritage of their ancestors. The film consists of three parts: "Rituals, Crafts and Cuisine.
Director Serhiy Sharaevsky noted that getting to know the Crimean Tatar culture was a deep personal experience for him:"Even during the filming of the previous film, I was struck by the depth and richness of this culture - its traditions, art, and crafts."
Screenwriter Andriy Kokotyukha emphasized that it is important for Ukrainians to discover the culture of the Crimean Tatars as part of their common identity:"We live in the same country as the Crimean Tatars. It's time to learn more about the rich culture of this people."
Refat Chubarov, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, emphasized that the film accurately conveys true traditions.
"Everything that is related to the attempts to convey true traditions requires accuracy. But those who took part in the filming said they knew for sure. This is a true film that can be referred to in decades to come," Chubarov emphasized.
"Living Legacy of Crimea. Traditions" is a continuation of the cultural and artistic initiative launched by the film "Beyond the Dig. The State". If the first film focused on historical memory, the new work shifts attention to the present - to tradition as a living part of the present.
Mavile Khalil, a consultant on Crimean Tatar issues, noted that the film gives viewers the opportunity to feel the warmth and hospitality of the Crimean Tatar world.
The premiere at the Crimean House opened a series of screenings - the first episode about traditions has been presented, and the full version of the trilogy will be available on YouTube soon. The authors hope that the film will help to feel the vibrant energy of Crimean Tatar culture, which continues to inspire today.
Today, the life of Crimean Tatars is significantly different from what it will be like in ten years. Intent talked to Fevzi Mamutov, the head of the NGO "Crimean Tatars of Odesa Region", a champion of Ukraine and Europe in Greco-Roman wrestling and a member of the Odesa Regional Council, about fears, resistance, the need to preserve history and dreams about Crimea and Odesa. He noted that Ukrainian society has begun to listen more to Crimean Tatars and create opportunities for them to express themselves.
