A modern grain transshipment terminal has been opened in the port of Chornomorsk in Odesa region. It has already started its work.

According to Serhiy Verenkiotov, co-owner of the group of companies that created the terminal, the project was launched after the outbreak of full-scale war.

According to him, the idea for the construction arose at the beginning of the war when the company saw prospects in grain transshipment. The new terminal has a loading capacity of up to 8 thousand tons per day. It is capable of handling vessels with a deadweight of up to 30,000 tons, and the simultaneous grain storage capacity is 33,000 tons.

"We have created a complete logistics chain - from field to ship. This allows us to act as both traders and logistics partners for other companies," said Verenkiotov.

The project was implemented with the support of Kernel's Open Agribusiness program and international assistance. In particular, USAID provided a mobile loader, unloading equipment, scales, and earlier - 15 grain cars.

Ukrainian seaports show different financial results for the first three quarters of 2024: "Pivdennyi and Chornomorsk are increasing their profits, while the Danube ports are reducing their volumes.

According to analysts, the port of Chornomorsk showed significant growth: revenue tripled to UAH 1.48 billion, and net profit increased more than 17 times to UAH 668.89 million. In contrast, the Danube ports recorded a decline.

In October, the Russian army launched missile attacks on civilian ships and port infrastructure in Odesa region.

On October 7, a ballistic missile hit a civilian vessel flying the flag of Palau, killing a 60-year-old Ukrainian man, an employee of a company engaged in cargo operations. Five other foreigners were injured.

On October 9, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the ports of Odesa region, killing nine people and injuring 11 others, who were hospitalized. A civilian cargo ship flying the Panamanian flag was damaged. Oleksiy Kuleba, Minister of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, said that over the past three months, the Russian army has carried out almost 60 attacks on ports in southern Ukraine. The main targets were ports, civilian vessels and grain storage facilities, resulting in the damage or destruction of about 300 port infrastructure facilities, 177 vehicles and 22 vessels. A total of 79 people were injured, including employees of ports and logistics companies.

The ballistic missile strike on October 9, which damaged the Panamanian-flagged Shui Spirit, poses risks to the continuation of container transportation through Ukrainian ports. The missile severely damaged the container terminal, and the affected vessel was serving a line of Maersk, which may reconsider its work with Ukrainian ports due to the growing risks.
