The Office of the Prosecutor General has sent to court an indictment against a woman suspected of attempting to murder a public figure, Odesa resident Serhiy Sternenko.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the investigation, on May 1, 2025, she acted on the instructions of representatives of the Russian Federation. The woman arrived at a pre-determined place in Kyiv, waited for the victim, and when he appeared, she pulled out a gun and made three aimed shots. The victim received a perforating gunshot wound to the thigh. The suspect was unable to complete the crime for reasons beyond her control.
The investigation believes that she acted on the prior conspiracy of a group of people and executed the order. Her actions were aimed at assisting the Russian Federation in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine under martial law.
The woman is charged with high treason, completed attempted premeditated murder committed on order for mercenary motives, and illegal handling of weapons. The attacker was a 45-year-old native of Odesa region who had recently been living in the capital.
According to the investigation, she was recruited by Russian special services late last year when she was looking for "easy money" on the Internet. At first, she performed tasks of tracking cars and transmitting coordinates. Later, she received instructions to make an improvised explosive device and moved to the residential complex where Serhiy Sternenko lived to spy on him.
On the eve of the attack, she received instructions from the "hideout" to take a pistol with ammunition. On the morning of May 1, she carried out an armed attack on the command of her curator. The attacker was detained immediately - she shot several times at the activist near his home in Kyiv, one of the bullets hit him in the leg.
The SBU assures that they already knew about the preparation of the crime. During the searches, they found evidence of cooperation with Russian special services and materials for explosives.
