A series of educational videos about Crimea, the Crimean Tatars and the common history of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar peoples has been posted on the Diia.Osvita platform.

This was reported on the page of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

The series was created in cooperation with the independent Crimean Tatar media CrimeaVox. "Crimea is one of the least understood topics even within Ukraine. We made this series to explain complex things about the peninsula in simple language," said Muslim Umerov, journalist and co-founder of CrimeaVox.

The series includes five short videos on key topics in the history and present of Crimea. In particular, the authors explain how Crimea was actually transferred to the Ukrainian SSR in 1954 and why the statement about Khrushchev's "gift" is manipulative. Separate episodes tell about the Crimean Tatars as the indigenous people of Crimea, the history of the Crimean Khanate, the deportation of 1944, and the current resistance to Russian occupation.

The video also discusses the place of Crimea in Ukrainian culture. In particular, the peninsula's connection with the works of Lesya Ukrainka and Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky. A separate issue is dedicated to the Crimean War of 1853-1856, the role of Crimean Tatars, Danube Cossacks, and Western allies in the confrontation with the Russian Empire. Another topic of the series is the centuries-long interaction between Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars: from conflicts to military alliances and political cooperation.

According to Ruslana Korenchuk, CEO of Diia.Osvita and manager of joint projects at the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the East Europe Foundation, the ability to distinguish fact from fake is a matter of national security today, and the history of Crimea has been one of the central themes of Russian propaganda for decades.
