The Main Intelligence Directorate stated that the Kerch Bridge has lost its strategic importance

The Kerch Bridge remains an important political symbol of the occupation of Crimea, but its military significance for Russia has declined significantly.

This was reported by Krym.Realii, citing a statement by Vadym Skibitsky, deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, during the Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference.

According to Skibitsky, the Kerch Bridge “is no longer such a strategic asset for the Russian Federation.” He explained that Ukraine has destroyed or disrupted many other logistics routes on the occupied peninsula.

As a result, Russia is increasingly shifting its military supplies to a land corridor through the occupied territories of southern Ukraine. A significant portion of military cargo, particularly weapons, is currently being routed through the Rostov region and then via the so-called land bridge through the occupied Ukrainian territories.

At the same time, Skibitsky emphasized the political significance of the Kerch Bridge. According to him, for the Russian leadership and Vladimir Putin, it remains a symbol of the occupation of Crimea.

“This may be one of the routes for the Russian occupiers to return home,” added the GUR representative.

As a reminder, on the morning of August 22, a line of nearly 400 vehicles formed in front of the Crimean Bridge from the side of occupied Kerch. Traffic jams have been reported for the third day in a row.

Ukraine is conducting a large-scale campaign to isolate occupied Crimea by targeting the peninsula’s logistics infrastructure—the Kerch Bridge, ferry crossings, oil depots, ports, and ships of Russia’s “shadow fleet.” 

The attacks are aimed at transforming Crimea from a Russian military rear base into a “logistical island” cut off from supplies.

According toRobert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, the strategic goal is the complete isolation of Crimea and the creation of unbearable conditions for Russian troops stationed there.
