The platoon commander of the illegal armed group "Self-Defense of Crimea" will be tried.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The post says that the prosecutor's office of the autonomy sent to the court an indictment against "the platoon commander of the illegal armed group 'Self-Defense of Crimea', which operated during the active phase of the occupation of the peninsula. His actions are qualified as: participation in armed groups not provided for by law (Part 2 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine); encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine (Part 2 of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine); high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It was established that in February 2014, a citizen of Ukraine joined the ranks of the illegal armed formation "Self-Defense of Crimea" coordinated by the Russian armed forces, taking the position of "commander of the 1st platoon of the 1st company". In addition, in 2017, he was appointed deputy head of the "Crimean Republican Headquarters of the People's Militia of the People's Guard of the Republic of Crimea". For his services to the occupiers, the "self-defender" received medals "For the Defense of Crimea", "For the Return of Crimea" and the Order "For Loyalty to Duty".
