Vakarchuk called for the creation of a humanitarian corridor to rescue the people of Oleshky

Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, musician and frontman of the band “Okean Elzy,” called on Ukrainian and foreign journalists to draw attention to the tragic situation in the occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region, where more than 1,500 people are trapped.

He wrote about this on social media.

According to Vakarchuk, among those trapped are the elderly, the seriously ill, and even children. For five months now, it has been virtually impossible to evacuate them from there.

“Volunteer initiatives, which previously achieved the impossible and managed to rescue people, are now unable to get through due to targeted enemy shelling. The roads are mined, and traveling there is deadly dangerous. People are left without the bare necessities; there is already famine there,” the musician wrote.

Vakarchuk emphasized that simply talking about this tragedy is no longer enough—we need to raise awareness and demand that a humanitarian corridor be established from Oleshky.

The musician called on Ukrainian and foreign journalists to draw attention to the situation in Oleshky and not to let the town disappear from the news.

Oleshky in the Kherson region, which is occupied by Russian forces, is under a humanitarian blockade. The last food shipments arrived in late May. Local residents are starving, and Russian troops are not allowing them to leave the city.

Back in July, Ukraine appealed to the Vatican to help establish a humanitarian corridor for the evacuation of people from Oleshky and Hola Prystan on the left bank of the Kherson region.

Recently, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that Ukraine, together with international partners and relevant organizations, is working to ensure humanitarian access to Oleshky and to establish humanitarian corridors.
