Occupied Crimea ranked 55th out of 80 in the Russian Federation's road safety ranking

Temporarily occupied Crimea ranked 55th out of 80 in Russia’s road safety ranking. At the same time, the number of traffic accidents on the peninsula has decreased overall.

This was reported by Golos Kryma.

Experts attribute the poor results to drivers’ failure to follow traffic rules. They also note that the large number of traffic cameras on the roads does not prevent speeding, driving into oncoming traffic, or drunk driving.

According to Crimean automotive expert Dmitry Taran, drivers often get used to the locations of the cameras and rely on them instead of traffic signs and road markings. 

The main causes of fatal accidents in occupied Crimea are driving into oncoming traffic and speeding, especially on highways between populated areas. At the same time, on the illegally constructed “Tavrida” highway, traffic rules are most often ignored by visitors. 

As Intent previously reported, the fuel crisis in occupied Crimea has worsened, causing gasoline to disappear entirely from most gas stations or to be sold by scalpers at double the normal price. Amid the shortage and regular attacks on logistics, fuel tankers are now escorted by military mobile fire teams.

An activist from Belogorsk told reporters that previously, military pickup trucks equipped with large-caliber machine guns had only escorted fuel tankers into Crimea from the Kherson region. Now, however, they have also appeared on Crimean highways.
