In Crimea, officials have stopped promising lower fuel prices

Fuel prices in Crimea may not return to the levels seen before the state of emergency was declared. Vladimir Konstantinov, speaker of the peninsula’s occupying parliament, confirmed the complexity of the situation.

The official noted that fuel prices currently differ from those in neighboring regions of Russia. This difference is significant, so it is unlikely to be reduced in the near future.

There is still a very long way to go before prices drop below 100 rubles per liter, and it’s hard to say whether we’ll be able to cover that distance. “There is a possibility that fuel prices in Crimea will not return to their previous level, especially given Crimea’s logistics,” he said.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin promised Crimeans compensation of up to 85 rubles per liter. However, prices have not yet fallen. 

In Russian-occupied Crimea, following a brief improvement in fuel availability, the gasoline shortage has worsened again. At most gas stations that remain open, diesel fuel is now the primary option available.

According to a local activist from Simferopol, the gasoline situation has worsened again. At the same time, fuel prices have not dropped despite promises from the Russian occupation authorities, and the quality of the gasoline, he says, is causing complaints.

Amid the shortage, local residents are offering various theories about the causes of the fuel shortage. In particular, one theory suggests that gasoline may be being stockpiled ahead of the September elections to the Russian State Duma so that, before the vote, it will be available at gas stations in greater quantities and at lower prices. However, the publication provides no evidence to support this theory.
