In the village of Yevhenivka, Snihuriv community, a local shepherd was grazing cattle in a densely mined field, and 4 cows exploded as a result of the detonation of ammunition.
This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Mykolaiv region.
The report says that one of the owners, having learned what had happened, ran to the field and decided to take her animal. When she stopped, she saw objects next to her that looked like explosives.
The woman was evacuated from the danger zone by explosive experts from the Main Directorate of the National Police. She was not injured. No ammunition was found near her.
Sappers from the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Odesa Oblast, who are currently helping to clear land in Mykolaiv Oblast, examined the area near the injured cows and found a PMN-2 anti-personnel mine, which was destroyed in accordance with the established procedure.
Rescuers in Mykolaiv region warn that despite the work of all services working on demining, the area is still densely mined.
Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian farmers have received more than 231,000 hectares of surveyed and cleared of mines from sappers. Of these, more than 30,500 hectares of pyrotechnics were handed over to agricultural producers in September.
In total, since the beginning of the year, pyrotechnics have surveyed more than 257 thousand hectares of land.
Most of the land has been surveyed:
- Kherson region: 26.2 thousand hectares in September, 210.7 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year;
- Kharkiv region: 2.6 thousand hectares in September, 20.1 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year;
- Mykolaiv region: 1.9 thousand hectares in September, 14 thousand hectares since the beginning of the year.
In September, 71 mechanical demining vehicles and 684 pyrotechnic teams - more than 4.2 thousand specialists - were involved in humanitarian demining and rapid response.
Earlier it was reported that Mykolaiv pyrotechnics were assisted in demining by colleagues from four other regions. There are 12 SES brigades in the region, including teams of mechanized, underwater, mine-search and pyrotechnic demining. Currently, manual demining remains one of the most common methods of detecting and destroying explosive devices in Mykolaiv region. This is an important area of work for the SES of Ukraine, as it helps to improve the safety of local communities and facilitates access to damaged infrastructure facilities for emergency services.
