Deputies of the Mykolaiv Regional Council have approved the transfer of Maternity Hospital No. 3 to the joint ownership of the region.

The decision was made during a session on April 16.

It is about Maternity Hospital No. 3, which is to be merged with the Mykolaiv Regional Clinical Hospital located nearby. This decision is expected to optimize the work of medical institutions and improve the quality of medical services.

Regional Council Chairman Anton Tabunschyk noted that the transfer has been discussed since 2023, and the current decision was a key step.

According to him, the merger of the institutions should contribute to the further development of the region's medical infrastructure.

The decision was supported by 44 deputies, with one abstention.

Earlier, on April 9, Mykolaiv City Council decided to reorganize the city's healthcare network on a large scale. It provides for the merger of hospitals into a single structure and the transfer of one of the maternity hospitals to the ownership of the region.

At the time, Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych explained that the facility was unprofitable due to the low number of births and needed constant additional funding.

After the transfer:

  • it will be merged with the regional clinical hospital
  • it will be able to get a new status and funding
  • it will become part of the regional medical system

At the same time, significant funds have already been invested in the institution - tens of millions of hryvnias in repairs and equipment.

As Intent previously reported, Mykolaiv is preparing for a major overhaul of the city's Children's Hospital No. 2. The work includes insulation of the facade and basement, replacement of windows and roofs, and renovation of internal engineering networks and gutters. The total budget of the project is about UAH 52 million, of which more than 41 million will be spent on construction work, the rest on design, expertise, technical supervision, author's supervision, and taxes.
