A police officer struck a woman with his car in Berezivka; she died

In Berezivka, Odesa Oblast, a police officer driving his own Mazda struck a 37-year-old woman. The victim was hospitalized but later died from her injuries. An internal investigation has been launched into the fatal traffic accident.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region.

The accident occurred late in the evening on September 26. According to preliminary reports, a 24-year-old police officer who was off duty struck the woman as she was crossing the road in an unmarked area.

After the accident, the driver called an ambulance, the police, and officers from the State Bureau of Investigations. According to the results of the medical examination, the officer was sober.

Investigators are currently reviewing footage from surveillance cameras. According to preliminary police reports, the footage shows that the woman crossed the roadway multiple times. During one of her attempts, she was struck by the car.

The police also noted that, according to preliminary information, the driver attempted to avoid hitting her—he braked and sounded his horn.

The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) is conducting a pre-trial investigation into the fatal traffic accident. The leadership of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region has launched an internal investigation.

All circumstances of the accident are being investigated.
