Two Odessa residents were sentenced for attacking a police car

In Odessa, while police were apprehending a wanted individual, two local residents vandalized the patrol officers’ car. The court sentenced them to three years of restricted freedom, each with a one-year probation period.

This is stated in the verdict of the Primorsky District Court of Odessa. 

The case of the minor who participated in the incident and damaged the police car with a chain was separated into a separate proceeding. He was released on bail of 66,500 hryvnias, set by the court as an alternative to detention in a pretrial detention center. 

The total damages to the police amounted to 100,757.58 hryvnias. The civil claim was split. Only 4,619.32 hryvnias were collected from the man, and 43,727.66 hryvnias from the woman. Both will additionally pay 6,739.04 hryvnias each for forensic examinations.

The incident occurred on May 14. At that time, while local police officers were detaining a citizen who had left his military unit without permission, a group of people began to obstruct the law enforcement officers. Aggressive bystanders blocked the path of the police vehicle, preventing the man from being taken to the military law enforcement unit.

During the conflict, the citizens physically resisted the officers and damaged the police vehicle. The 33-year-old man, who had been placed on a wanted list for deserting his military unit, was detained and handed over to representatives of the Military Law Enforcement Service.
