The Cameroon-flagged cargo ship Eileen, which sank in the Black Sea about 140 miles east of Varna on October 12, belonged to a company from Odesa.
This was reported by Maritime.bg.
Shortly after 13:00, the 1993-built vessel with a deadweight of 3,092 tons reported water intrusion overboard. The captain ordered the crew to abandon the ship, which sank in the Black Sea. There were no reports of injuries among the 10 crew members, all Ukrainian sailors. The men were evacuated on two life rafts.
The offshore supply vessel Murat Ilhan, which was closest to the survivors, took on board a crew consisting of Ukrainians.
According to the publication, the Eileen is a general cargo vessel built in 1993. The vessel is operated by a company based in Odesa. The last inspection of the vessel took place in Izmail and revealed five non-compliances with BSMoU. The vessel was detained during inspections in July in Poti, Georgia, in June in Astakos, Greece, and in March in Tuzla, Turkey, for numerous non-compliances.
The Memorandum of Understanding on State Port Control in the Black Sea Region (Black Sea MOU) is a system of agreed inspection procedures designed to inspect ships entering ports to eliminate non-compliant standards and ensure safe navigation.
Earlier, the Ingulsky dredger, which was damaged in July while working in the Bystryi estuary, was successfully raised from the bottom of the canal. According to the USPA, the vessel has been sent for a technical inspection, which will determine the scope and procedure for repair work. The vessel was half-submerged, but it was decided to restore it and use it again.
Late in the evening, on July 23, an emergency occurred with a dredger belonging to the Delta Pilot branch of the state enterprise Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority: the vessel hit a mine. The explosion killed three USPA employees. Other crew members were hospitalized.
