The Suvorov District Court of Odesa released on personal recognizance a former security guard who was caught extorting money from pensioners. The man posed as a bank security officer. In total, he and his accomplices seized more than 300 thousand hryvnias from the elderly.

This was reported to Intent by the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation in Mykolaiv.

The prosecutor's office and the State Bureau of Investigation requested that he be placed in custody, as he and his accomplices committed eight episodes of fraud in total. In addition, the suspect could be a fugitive from justice and influence witnesses. However, after hearing all the parties, the court released the suspect on his own recognizance.

The journalist tried to get a comment from the court, but the number listed on the official website was not answered.

Last year, the SBI documented the activities of the man, a patrol officer from Poltava region, on six episodes of fraud and sent an indictment to court.

Recently, the SBI found two more episodes of fraud committed during the first ones. The police officer involved civilians. They are being investigated separately. The group found the data of pensioners and called them posing as bank security officers. Under the pretext of account protection, they obtained confidential information, withdrew funds from the accounts of the elderly and divided them among themselves. To avoid being found, the policeman hid himself by wearing a buff, dark glasses, and a panama hat. At the time, he was already living in Odesa. In total, they seized about 300 thousand hryvnias. The law enforcement officer has now been dismissed from the service and a new suspicion of fraud on a particularly large scale committed by an organized group has been reported.
