The Mykolaiv Center for Folk Art, which was destroyed by shelling, has been relocated

The Mykolaiv Regional Council is preparing to honor the region’s top educators and nominate an active youth leader for a prestigious award from the Verkhovna Rada. At the same time, council members passed resolutions that will impact the operations of the region’s educational and cultural institutions. 

These issues were discussed at a meeting of the Mykolaiv Regional Council’s Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports.

Five of the six committee members participated in the meeting, along with representatives of the regional military administration and relevant departments. One of the key issues was the nomination of candidates for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s annual Vasyl Sukhomlynsky Award. 

The Department of Education proposed two candidates: Svitlana Mironiuk, a teacher of Ukrainian language and literature, and Larysa Semenyuk, a preschool teacher. According to officials, both have significant professional experience, numerous awards, and actively implement their own educational practices. The commission unanimously supported both candidates and recommended them for approval at the regional council session.

During the discussion, deputies also noted that not all communities in the region submit candidates for awards of this level. Commission members expressed the view that local authorities should more actively encourage educators to participate in competitions and awards in order to recognize specialists from all communities in the region.

Separately, the commission supported amendments to the charters of the “Admiral’s” and “Renaissance” academic lyceums. The need for these adjustments was explained by the need to bring the documents into compliance with current legislation and to complete the process of transforming former sanatorium boarding schools into academic lyceums. The changes will also allow these institutions to retain their medical facilities and related services, which are funded by the regional budget.

Another issue was the update of information regarding the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Folk Art and Cultural-Educational Work. After the building was destroyed by Russian shelling in 2023, the center moved to the regional palace of culture. Now the regional council must officially change the institution’s legal address in the state registry. The committee members also supported this initiative without objection.

In addition, the deputies approved the nomination of Kyrylo Ravinsky for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s annual Pylyp Orlyk Award. During the meeting, it was noted that he actively participates in the development of the region’s youth policy, coordinated humanitarian projects following the start of the full-scale invasion, collaborated with international organizations, and contributed to the implementation of youth programs. The committee members unanimously supported his nomination.

Following the meeting, all issues considered were approved by the commission and will be submitted for consideration at an extraordinary session of the Mykolaiv Regional Council.

In May, regional council deputies supported a decision launching the final stage of transferring Maternity Hospital No. 3 to regional ownership. Despite concerns among some deputies regarding the facility’s future, the authorities assured them that the medical institution would not lose its specialization and would even expand its range of services.
