A court ordered an internally displaced person to pay 31,200 hryvnias in debt for heating her apartment in Kherson. The lawsuit was filed by JSC “Kherson Thermal Power Plant.”
This is stated in the ruling of the Kherson City Court.
The Kherson Thermal Power Plant sought to collect the debt for centralized heating from the apartment owner for the period from November 2021 to March 2026. The amount of the debt was 33,172 hryvnias. The company also sought an additional 3,328 hryvnias in court fees.
The woman contested the claim. She explained that she had left Kherson due to the war and had not used the heating. She also believed that the company had not provided sufficient evidence to support the accuracy of the charges.
In response, the Kherson Thermal Power Plant provided a breakdown of the debt and explained that the status of an internally displaced person does not, in and of itself, exempt the apartment owner from paying for heating services. The court agreed with this position.
During the proceedings, the court took into account the defendant’s partial payments. As a result, the amount of the debt was reduced from 33,171 hryvnias to 31,172 hryvnias.
The court also ordered the woman to pay 3,228 hryvnias in court fees to the Kherson Thermal Power Plant.
The decision has not yet become final. It may be appealed to the Kherson Court of Appeals within 30 days.
