An X-22 cruise missile was used in yet another enemy attack in the Mykolaiv region—the occupiers used it to strike an industrial facility in the Mykolaiv district on the afternoon of August 18.
According to the press service of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, there were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the missile strike.
In addition, the Kutsurub community came under artillery fire .
The region also came under attack from a“Shahed”-type strike drone. The administration clarified that no damage was reported as a result of the strikes.
The Kh-22 is a Soviet anti-ship cruise missile developed in the 1960s and designed to engage large surface targets, particularly aircraft carriers.
Russia is using it to strike ground targets in Ukraine, although the missile is not designed for this purpose—as a result, it has low accuracy and causes significant damage upon impact. The Kh-22 is launched from Tu-22M3 carrier aircraft; the missile’s warhead weighs up to one metric ton. Due to its high speed and complex flight path, Ukraine’s air defense forces are extremely rarely able to shoot it down.
According to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Russian forces used aircraft, drones, and artillery against the Kherson region over the past 24 hours. Kherson and settlements across the region came under attack, including Beryslav, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Tyahynka, Zmiivka, Komyshany, Antonivka, Sadove, Darivka, Osokorivka, and others.
The invaders struck critical and social infrastructure, as well as residential neighborhoods. As a result of the attacks, three high-rise buildings and 15 private homes were damaged.
A restaurant, a utility building, a bus, and private cars were also damaged.
Nine people were injured as a result of Russian aggression in the Kherson region.
