Prosecutors from the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office notified the company’s director that he was suspected of intentional tax evasion on a large scale, but he decided to repay his debts to the state.

According to the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation found that the head of the company, which is engaged in the wholesale and retail trade of construction materials, submitted false information in financial statements and tax returns throughout the past year and the first quarter of 2026.

Specifically, he unjustifiably inflated expenses and the cost of goods sold, while also underreporting the company’s revenue. As a result of these actions, the amount of income tax due to the budget was illegally reduced. Due to the director’s unlawful actions, the state budget lost more than 6.6 million hryvnias.

During the pretrial investigation, the suspect fully compensated the state for the losses incurred by paying over 6.6 million hryvnias in unpaid taxes, as well as nearly 200,000 hryvnias in penalties.

In light of the full reimbursement of the losses, prosecutors filed a motion with the court to exempt the suspect from criminal liability, as provided by law.

Previously, the Economic Security Bureau compelled a business owner providing international transportation services to reimburse the state budget for nearly 10 million hryvnias in unpaid taxes. Detectives from the Economic Security Bureau’s Regional Office in the Odesa region determined that the entrepreneur, who operated international passenger transport services between Odesa and cities in Romania, earned over 71 million hryvnias in income from business activities between 2022 and 2024. The man was also exempted from criminal liability because he reimbursed the state for the losses.
