During his visit to Kherson, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy handed over the Star of the Hero of Ukraine to the son of the deceased farmer from Beryslav region Oleksandr Hordiienko.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this on social media.

"He was well known in Kherson and throughout Ukraine. He did a lot to keep the Kherson region alive, to demine our Ukrainian lands, to protect them from drones," Zelensky said.

As a reminder, a well-known farmer and deputy of the Kherson Regional Council , Oleksandr Hordienko , died on September 5, 2025, as a result of an occupier drone attack . He had worked faithfully in agriculture for more than 30 years and headed the Kherson Farmers' Association.

The drone attacked the car in which Hordienko was working in the field. The enemy took the life of one of the most prominent figures in the region's agricultural community. Oleksandr Hordiienko was the owner of the Hordiienko farm and the owner of the land. He remained in his native Kherson region despite the mines and shelling, continuing to develop agriculture and support his colleagues.

Later, the daughter of the deceased farmer Hordiienko asked to award her father the title of Hero of Ukraine. He had single-handedly cleared thousands of hectares of mines and shot down more than 200 Russian drones, saving equipment and workers during the war.

According to his daughter, after the de-occupation of the right bank of the Kherson region, her father single-handedly cleared thousands of hectares of fields, removing more than 5,000 anti-tank mines, and saved equipment and workers from shelling. Hordiienko actively countered enemy drones, using electronic warfare and even shooting them down with a rifle. During the war, he eliminated more than 200 Russian drones, for which the locals called him "Farmer Rambo."

The petition emphasizes that Oleksandr Dmytrovych was engaged in agriculture from 1992 to 2022, grew bread near Beryslav and continued his farming activities during the war, risking his life for the sake of Ukrainian land.
