A postman from Mykolaiv was found guilty of high treason for passing information about military facilities to Russia and calling for strikes on the Ukrainian armed forces. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This was reported by the Court Reporter with reference to the court verdict.

According to the case, the accused worked as a postman at Ukrposhta. In February 2023, he agreed to transmit information about military facilities and critical infrastructure to a representative of the Russian Federation via Telegram, sending data on the location of the Ukrainian military and calling for strikes on them.

In June of the same year, the man responded to an offer from an unknown interlocutor to help liberate Mykolaiv from the "Nazis" as soon as possible and offered to destroy the "terrorists" who, according to him, were conducting raids in the Belgorod region. However, the coordinates provided were a residential apartment building that was not a military facility.

The man's actions were classified under articles on high treason and attempted aiding and abetting in violation of the laws of war. He denied the aggression of the Russian Federation, claimed that he did not cooperate with enemy special services and did not receive any reward. He explained his behavior by his desire to attract the attention of women. During the trial, seven women testified, partially confirming his words, but also testifying to threats and pro-Russian statements.

The court found that the accused was aware that he was supporting the actions of the Russian Federation, and passed on the coordinates of military facilities and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Mykolaiv. In addition, he passed on the coordinates of his cousin's house, explaining this by a conflict with her and a desire to scare her. Witnesses confirmed the absence of real threats and suggested that it could have been the result of the defendant's drunkenness.

The court sentenced the man to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. He had been in custody for almost two years.

A woman from Mykolaiv is also suspected of passing information to the enemy about the location of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She provided information about the consequences of shelling in Mykolaiv region and the exact locations of Ukrainian troops. The court extended her detention.
