Police investigators have served eight station managers of the Odesa Railways with a notice of suspicion of abuse of office for the purpose of obtaining undue advantage.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office.
According to the investigation, in 2023, officials did not issue acts on the delay of freight cars of private enterprises that remained on the tracks for more than a day - that is, longer than the allowed time limit. Such actions allowed private companies to avoid paying downtime fees. As a result, Ukrzaliznytsia suffered losses of more than UAH 9 million.
Dozens of cases of unreasonable downtime of freight cars have been documented. Some of them remained on the tracks for more than a month. Law enforcement officers conducted more than 20 searches at the suspects' homes and Ukrzaliznytsia stations, seizing documents, computer equipment, and phones. The issue of choosing a measure of restraint against the suspects is currently being decided.
Earlier, the Security Service eliminated another mobilization evasion scheme in southern Ukraine. In Odesa region, the head and two members of a local expert team for assessing the daily functioning of a person (formerly MSEC) who were selling fake medical certificates were detained.
SBU officers detained all three suspects when they were receiving regular bribes for fake medical reports.
During the searches, the SBU found draft records, personal files of recruits, and smartphones with evidence of illegal activity.
In June, the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court decided to consider an appeal against the guilty verdict in the Silk Road case filed by four convicted of embezzling over UAH 98 million in Odesa region.
