The public opposed the construction of a hotel on the shores of Odesa. A petition demanding control and dismantling has already gained the necessary signatures.

This is evidenced by the electronic petition calling for the dismantling of the illegal superstructure on the Lanzheron beach in Odesa.

An electronic petition demanding the demolition of an illegal superstructure on Odesa's Lanzheron beach, which blocked the view of the sea from the Memorial to the Unknown Sailor on the Walk of Fame, has received the required number of votes. Now it must be considered by the city authorities of Odesa.

The appeal was initiated by the human rights organization Common Purpose. They note that the facility, which is officially registered as a "reconstruction of non-residential premises into a water sports recreation center," has actually turned into the construction of a 12-story M1 Club Apartments hotel, although only 8 floors were allowed. The old building has been completely demolished, and the developer, SPC-RIELT, is building a new high-rise.

The activists emphasize that such actions violate Ukrainian law, in particular the Law on the Protection of Cultural Heritage, as well as international conventions, such as the 1954 Hague and 1972 UNESCO conventions.

A petition against the construction of the M1 Club Apartments hotel on Lanzheron Beach in Odesa's Prymorskyi district was filed by the Common Purpose NGO in late October.

According to the official permit No. OD 112182601269 dated September 17, 2018, the facility was supposed to provide for the reconstruction of non-residential premises into a water sports recreation center. Instead, the developer has completely demolished the old building and is building a new hotel with 12 floors instead of the permitted 8.

This blocked the historical panorama of the sea from the Unknown Sailor Memorial, a key element of the Eternal Flame architectural ensemble created in 1960.Volunteers emphasize that the construction threatens to destroy the historical appearance of the Odesa coast and violates protected visual corridors.
