In Odesa, doctors saved a six-month-old baby with a critical heart defect. Doctors claim to have performed a cardiac surgery that has no analogues in the world.
This was reported by the Odesa Regional Hospital.
Cardiac surgeons from the regional clinical hospital, together with the head of the cardiac surgery department of the children's regional hospital, saved a baby with a severe congenital heart defect, Fallot's tetrad.
The medical institution said that 10 days ago, the child underwent a complicated surgery, but afterwards a dangerous complication arose - a complete heart block. Because of this, his heart rate slowed down to 70 beats per minute, although the normal rate for babies should be at least 120. This condition was life-threatening.
Doctors quickly decided to implant a special electrode that restores the natural heart rhythm. Thanks to this, the operation was successful, and the baby is feeling well.
The doctors note that this is a real breakthrough in cardiac surgery, as such an intervention has never been performed in the world before. They expressed their gratitude to their colleagues for their cooperation, as well as to Professor Yuriy Karpenko.
Intent has already written how a baby was treated for pneumonia in Odesa, but then a foreign object was found in his chest. With the help of endoscopy, the foreign body was removed from the esophagus of a six-month-old child.
Also, surgeons at the Odesa Oblast Children's Hospital performed surgery on one-year-old Andriy. The boy was diagnosed with a rare anomaly - a three-atrial heart.
In addition, doctors operated on a 4-year-old orphan boy from Odesa region. He had a severe jaw pathology. The child was unable to eat and walk, and weighed as much as a baby. The surgeons were able to close the palate defect using a modified technique.
