Olena Buynevych, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council, commented on reports that the school year may be extended in June.
According to the official, the school year in Odesa schools will end in May, as planned.
"We will finish the lessons as planned at the end of May, and we will continue to finish them, we have worked this year even without long transitions to remote learning and quarantine, so we have to complete the implementation of plans and programs on time. So we are not worried. In June, there will be consultations, NMTs, and individual classes. The information about the stolen part of the vacation is not very correct," emphasized Olena Buynevych.
The fact is that on the morning of April 15, a number of media outlets reported that the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine had confirmed the date of the last bell in schools - May 30, 2025, as usual on the last working day of spring. However, according to the Cabinet of Ministers' resolution of July 23, 2024, school will continue until June 30, a month longer than usual.
The day before, students of Odesa schools returned to full-time education on Monday, April 14, after a break due to lower temperatures. Odesa schoolchildren were switched to distance learning on April 8. Meanwhile, on Friday, April 11, a storm hit Odesa, knocking down many trees across the city.
The Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council also asked the same department of the Odesa Regional State Administration to consider transferring the remaining subvention from the state budget for feeding primary school children to the Odesa budget. The need for such a transaction arose because the department was running out of funds for feeding children provided by the state subvention. The fact is that feeding of primary school children and children of privileged categories in schools is co-financed from local budgets and the state budget in the ratio of 70 to 30, where 30% is financed from local budgets.
