Odesa is planning to install four inclusive modular restrooms in the historic center of the city - on Soborna Square, in the City Garden, on Prymorskyi Boulevard, and on Ukrainskih Heroyiv Avenue.

This was discussed at a session of the Odesa City Council.

The modular toilets will have modern engineering and electronic equipment, and their installation is part of the city's new infrastructure upgrade program. The cost of the facilities is high, so the deputies raised the issue of security. The mayor's office fears that the expensive toilets may become victims of vandalism, as has already happened with other city facilities, such as the elevator on Primorsky Boulevard, which, after its launch, constantly broke down due to the negligent attitude of some residents.

To protect the new property, the authorities promise increased control: each restroom will be equipped with CCTV cameras that will be connected to the Safe City system, and patrols will be carried out by the Municipal Guard and the National Police. In addition, the city plans to hold a tender for the maintenance of toilets to avoid long shutdowns in case of malfunctions.

According to Vice Mayor Hanna Pozdnyakova, the protection of the facilities will be approached comprehensively, from video surveillance to regular inspections. However, she emphasizes that the main role in preserving the infrastructure should be played by the responsible attitude of Odesa residents.

All toilets will be accessible to people with disabilities: the locations will have lowered curbs and have appropriate entrances. The authorities consider the installation of modular toilets in the UNESCO zone to be an important step towards creating a comfortable and modern urban environment.

"We cannot foresee all acts of vandalism and irresponsible attitude to our common property. But these first four objects are being installed in the historic area, in the UNESCO zone, where the National Police and municipal guards are constantly patrolling. We will ask them to pay attention to these objects," said Anna Poznyakova.

Also at the session, the deputies of the Odesa City Council supported a draft decision on changes in the financing of school meals.

In addition, the deputies decided to create two new departments. One is the Department of Urban Development and Land Relations. The other department is the Department of Defense, Mobilization and Territorial Security.

They also allocated UAH 60 million from the budget for priority measures to connect new cogeneration units.
