Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov has instructed the Land and Cadastral Bureau to conduct aerial video surveys of the site for further planning and ordering a memorial project in honor of the city's citizens killed in the war with Russia.
According to the press service of the municipality, this became known during a regular working meeting.
Inna Popovska, Director of the Legal Department of the City Council, said that this is the only property complex that is currently on the balance sheet of the City Capital Construction Utility. This territory is considered as a potential location for the Memorial. This is the land of the former airport, which was purchased to expand the cemetery in 2014. This is obviously the property complex of the Zastava-2 airport, which was actually purchased for the cemetery at one time.
The participants of the meeting were also presented with the concept of the future Memorial, developed by architect David Pishchev in close cooperation with the families of the military.

Work on analyzing proposals and finding resources for the project is ongoing. The creation of the Memorial will be an important step in preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
Earlier in Odesa, a roundtable discussion was held on the standards for the design of military graves from the Russian-Ukrainian war. Participants discussed the unification of tombstones, symbols and design of memorials to preserve historical memory and national identity.
And in April, the Family of Angels of Light NGO proposed to the Odesa City Council and representatives of religious denominations to create an honorary military memorial burial site at the Western Cemetery in Odesa.
