Nature's verdict: the boom barriers near the Kerch bridge washed away into the sea

The boom barriers, which Russia is trying to use to protect the Kerch bridge connecting the occupied Crimea with Russia from possible attacks by Ukrainian army drones, are floating in the waters off the coast of Kerch.

This was reported by Krym.Realii.

The report says that fragments of the boom barriers are drifting in the area of the Kerch city embankment, and part of the boom barriers washed ashore in the central area of the city.

It is noted that in the summer of 2024, the aggressor country began to place barges on the south side of the bridge, and later additional barges and floating booms appeared, running parallel to the Kerch bridge. New satellite images show a significant increase in the number of barges protecting the bridge.

It is also noted that the Kerch bridge provides the main traffic to the occupied Crimea from the Russian territory, and is also used for military supplies to the Crimean peninsula.

Earlier it was reported that in order to take possession of the Azov Sea and the Kerch Strait, Russia built a large gate at their entrance to restrict international shipping, letting mostly its small river vessels pass. This was stated by Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Anton Korynevych during his speech in the court in The Hague, where Ukraine's position was presented at the oral hearings of the Arbitration Tribunal in the case concerning the rights of Ukraine as a coastal state in the Black and Azov Seas and in the Kerch Strait (Ukraine v. Russia). Mr. Korynevych emphasized that the Sea of Azov is not a lake or a small river delta. It is more than 37,000 square kilometers of semi-enclosed sea. The bridge is illegal and must be dismantled. The passage through the Kerch Strait should be similar to what it was before this illegal obstruction of navigation
