The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Danish government are launching a large-scale three-year project called the Strategic Partnership for Mykolaiv. Its budget is more than $36 million, which will be used to restore and develop the city.
This was reported by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
The initiative, which is part of long-term assistance to Ukraine, aims to improve the living conditions of local residents, help IDPs return and support the most vulnerable.
According to Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine, the project focuses not only on rebuilding infrastructure but also on creating better living conditions in war-affected communities.
The Strategic Partnership for Mykolaiv project will work in three main areas: strengthening local governance, rebuilding critical and social infrastructure, and economic growth, which includes stimulating the local economy and creating jobs.
Particular attention will be paid to humanitarian demining, which is key to the resumption of agricultural activities in the region. The project will also integrate gender approaches, increasing women's participation in decision-making.
As a reminder, Denmark is allocating $375 million for Ukraine's recovery . Of this amount, about 60%, or approximately $225 million, will be used to implement projects in Mykolaiv and the region.
This large-scale assistance program covers a wide range of areas. The funds will be used to restore critical infrastructure, provide humanitarian aid, support veterans and internally displaced persons, and develop business. In addition, the funding will be used for the 'green' transition in energy and transportation, as well as for the continuation of reforms.
Denmark has launched this initiative as part of its largest national aid program to another country, which underscores its commitment to supporting Ukraine in its reconstruction. As reported, Denmark has launched its largest national aid program for Ukraine with a total budget of DKK 2.8 billion (EUR 375 million).
