Mykolaiv region village council official may have embezzled 4 million

The head of the education department in Bashtanka district is suspected of embezzling UAH 4.3 million in education subventions.

This was reported by the Bashtanka District Prosecutor's Office.

Under the procedural guidance of the Bashtanka District and Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Offices, the head of the education department of the village council in Bashtanka district was served a notice of suspicion of embezzlement of other people's property by abuse of office under martial law, in particularly large amounts (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

It was reported that for two and a half years the official had been embezzling funds intended for educational subventions, charging bonuses to a select and limited number of teachers and management of secondary education institutions, without issuing relevant orders and without coordinating the relevant acts with trade union committees.

The total amount of damage caused to the state budget as a result of these actions is over UAH 4.3 million. The investigation is being conducted by investigators of the Bashtanka District Police Department No. 2. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years, as well as confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions for up to 3 years.

Earlier, the Pervomaiskyi City District Court in Mykolaiv region granted police access to bank documents of several companies involved in the overhaul of water supply systems in the villages of Lukashivka and Chausove in Pervomaisk district.

Law enforcement officers suspect officials of the Syniukhino-Brid village council of possible embezzlement of budget funds that occurred during the implementation of projects to repair water towers. Criminal proceedings under the article on embezzlement or misappropriation of property on a large scale, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of people, were opened in September 2025.
