Mykolaiv has become part of the international initiative "Cities of Healthy Living". The corresponding memorandum was signed with the Danish medical company Novo Nordisk.

This was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.

This made Mykolaiv the 50th city in the world and the second after Kyiv in Ukraine to join the program aimed at preventing chronic diseases.

The program's main goal is to provide access to healthy eating and physical activity, which are important factors in preventing chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease.

According to Vladyslav Moroz, CEO of the company, chronic diseases remain a big problem, especially in times of war.

"If we can make the city comfortable for living, moving and eating, as well as provide education on these issues, it will have a positive impact on the health of the residents," said Vladyslav Moroz.

Mr. Moroz also announced that after signing the memorandum, the situation in Mykolaiv will be analyzed to develop effective solutions.

In his speech, Deputy Head of Mission of the Danish Embassy Jens Alsbirk greeted everyone in Ukrainian. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with responsible Danish companies that support Ukraine during the war. As an example, last year Novo Nordisk donated equipment to the Mykolaiv blood transfusion station.

Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych expressed his gratitude to the people of Denmark and the company for their cooperation, noting that the signing of the memorandum will help reduce the number of people in need of medical services and improve the quality of medical care.

The program focuses on two main areas: physical activity and access to healthy food. This includes the creation of sports grounds, bicycle paths, training programs for citizens, and cooperation with medical institutions to diagnose diabetes.

Mykolaiv Oblast is also implementing a rehabilitation system for babies born prematurely or with illnesses.

Three medical institutions have signed agreements with the National Health Service of Ukraine to provide such services. The early intervention system is aimed at identifying and preventing developmental problems in children and supporting their families.

Recently, Mykolaiv doctors received new equipment from the World Health Organization. These devices can measure the content of radionuclides in the human body, in agricultural and food products, in drinking water, medicinal raw materials, wood, building materials and other environmental objects.
