From February 16 to 22, the Italian city of Pisa hosted the Wheelchair Fencing World Cup, which was attended by 135 athletes from 17 countries. Mykolaiv was represented at the competition by Oleh Naumenko, Dmytro Seriozhenko, Tetiana Pozniak, and Oleksii Zakusylov, who won five awards for Ukraine in total.
This was reported by Mykolaiv City Council.
In particular, Tetiana Pozniak won a gold medal in team epee, and Dmytro Serezhenko, Oleh Naumenko, and Oleksii Zakusylov became silver medalists in team foil. In addition, Oleh Naumenko won an individual bronze medal in epee fencing.
Particular attention was drawn to the act of Oleh Naumenko, who took to the track wearing a T-shirt with a portrait of his friend and parafencer Volodymyr Motelchuk, who died defending Ukraine's freedom. The Mykolaiv athletes were trained for the World Championships by coaches Gennadiy Yanovsky and Volodymyr Khrystyk.
On February 7, Larnaca, Cyprus, hosted the World Junior Sambo Cup in the city of Larnaca. Anastasia Yeremina, a representative of Mykolaiv region, won the World Cup as a member of the Ukrainian national team. The student of Mykolaiv Professional College of Physical Culture competed in the 72 kg weight category.
Earlier, Oleksiy Sereda, a diver from Mykolaiv, was named one of the TOP-10 best athletes of the year 2025 by the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and the Association of Sports Journalists. During the celebrations on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, the award was presented to the athlete by the NOC President , Olympic champion Vadym Hutzeit and the Committee's Vice President Oleksandr Krykun.
