Moldova plans to set up shelters at all border crossing points along its border with Ukraine. This decision was made in light of Russian attacks on Ukrainian border infrastructure.

According to Moldovan media reports, Moldovan Prime Minister Vasyl Tofan made this announcement during an appearance on the Cinema1 television channel.

According to Tofan, the most pressing issue right now is the number of incidents at the border. He emphasized that Russian troops are bombing border crossing points on the Ukrainian side to disrupt supply chains.

“It is clear that this poses a danger to both our citizens and border police officers,” the head of government noted.

In response, Moldovan authorities have already changed the organization of operations at certain border crossings. Specifically, personnel have been transferred to Moldovan territory from those checkpoints where border control was previously carried out on the Ukrainian side. These are joint border checkpoints.

The country has also begun setting up shelters at border crossings. According to the prime minister, some of them are full-scale structures, while others are simpler or temporary. They are currently being further reinforced.

“We will ensure that shelters are available at all border crossings,” the prime minister emphasized.

In addition, Moldovan authorities have conducted an inventory of the shelters available in the country. It turned out that some of them are ready for use, while others require cleaning and restoration.

According to Tofan, the relevant work is being coordinated, in particular, with the participation of the National Crisis Management Center. The authorities are inspecting the condition of the shelters and gradually bringing them up to standard to improve the country’s preparedness for emergencies.

On October 5, near the Moldovan-Ukrainian border at the “Palanka–Mayaki-Udobne” border crossing, a shell fell and ricocheted into a passenger bus.
