SBU intelligence officers detained a serviceman in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district of Odesa region on suspicion of spying for the Russian Federation.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office in the Southern Region.

According to the investigation, in November 2025, the suspect was recruited by an unidentified employee of the aggressor country's special services. In exchange for a monetary reward, he agreed to provide him with military information, the disclosure of which would harm the defense and state security of Ukraine. The communication took place in the Telegram messenger.

Due to the limited access to the necessary information, the suspect involved a fellow officer in his illegal activity. The man immediately informed law enforcement agencies and continued to act under their control. In January 2026, the suspect passed to a representative of the Russian special services information about the number of personnel in the military unit in which he served.

In February 2026, he sent photos of the engineering arrangement of a bridge crossing in one of the settlements of Odesa region. After that, he was detained by law enforcement officers, and the court has now imposed on him a preventive measure in the form of detention without bail.

Earlier, the SBU sent to court the case of a suspect in the Russian Federation, who was detained in August 2025 on suspicion of adjusting the shelling of Poltava and Odesa. According to SBU counterintelligence and investigators, a 35-year-old Poltava resident with a criminal record for drug trafficking and robbery was responsible for directing the enemy attacks. He came to the attention of Russians when he was looking for easy money on Telegram channels.
