An honored chess coach has said goodbye in the Kherson region. Valeriy Telman was 80 years old.

This was reported by the press service of the Kherson Regional State Administration.

"A man who devoted himself to chess. Under his leadership, Ukrainian chess players won significant victories in international arenas. We remember him not only as a talented coach, but also as a person who knew how to find an approach to each child, ignite interest and show the way," the statement reads.

Among Telman's students are international grandmasters Anna Borsuk, Natalia Zhukova, Inna Gaponenko, Serhiy Ovsiyevych, and Olena Aleksandrova.

A simultaneous chess session involving 40 children took place this year in Odesa. Five participants drew with grandmaster Natalia Zhukova.

The President of Ukraine signs a decree imposing sanctions on 18 people who actively cooperate with the Russian regime. Among them is the traitorous Crimean grandmaster Sergey Karyakin, who not only changed his sports citizenship to Russian, but also actively supports Russian aggression against Ukraine.

A Halloween chess tournament was held in Odesa. 73 children took part.

Books and shelves were all the Kherson youth needed to turn the shelters into cultural centers. In eight months, the Book Shelter project has created 26 such locations in all districts of Kherson and several communities in the Kherson region. They emphasize that the goal is to provide moral support to people in the face of daily Russian shelling and gentle Ukrainization, encouraging them to read in Ukrainian. In addition, the team and the Kherson Regional Military Administration have organized several all-Ukrainian events. Among them: "Free to Read in Ukrainian" and "One Student, One Book. Thanks to this, many people learned about the Book Shelter project and started sending books from different parts of Ukraine and even abroad.
