In Mykolaiv region, a court has arrested medical documents in a case of alleged bribery to influence the passage of a military medical commission. The investigation focuses on a doctor at a district hospital who is suspected of extorting money for declaring a man unfit for service.

This was reported by Intent with reference to the verdict of the Zavodskyi District Court of Mykolaiv.

According to the investigation, the orthopedic surgeon of the Berezan Central District Hospital could have extorted money for the unimpeded passage of the military medical commission and the recognition of the patient as unfit for military service.

Investigators believe that in March 2026, a man turned to the doctor who needed a referral for an MRI to re-pass the Military Medical Commission and assess his functional status. During the appointment, the doctor allegedly stated that the existing diagnosis was not enough to obtain the status of unfit, and that additional funds would be needed for a positive decision - initially, it was about the amount of up to USD 1000.

Later, as stated in the case file, the amount was clarified to $300. According to Intent, in exchange for these funds, he promised to freely diagnose the wounded soldier, which in the future could be the basis for declaring the man unfit for service and removing him from the register. According to the investigation, on May 6, the doctor allegedly received UAH 13,000 from the applicant at the hospital and put the money in his pants pocket.

During a search of the doctor's office, law enforcement officers seized the patient's cell phone and medical records. At the same time, the prosecutor asked not to consider the seizure of the phone, so the court arrested only the medical documents, recognizing them as potential material evidence in the criminal proceedings. The doctor is suspected of taking a bribe from an official, combined with extortion.

The members of the expert team included a proctologist surgeon, who also holds the position of head of the operating room; a surgeon from the same medical institution, who also served as an administrator; and an orthopedic traumatologist.
