In 2025, almost 6,000 violations of language legislation were recorded in Odesa and more than 1,700 Russian-language advertising structures were dismantled.

This was announced by Deputy Mayor of Odesa Alla Bekh at a meeting with representatives of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, district administrations, relevant departments, NGOs, and the Youth Council.

In turn, Olga Lozova, Deputy Head of the Odesa City Military Administration, called on Odesa residents to join this work and organize a flash mob to replace Russian-language inscriptions with Ukrainian ones in their own spaces.

"This will be our joint contribution to the victory over Russian aggression. Odesa should sound Ukrainian. This is the language of our freedom and our future," she emphasized.

Last year, the secretariat of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language registered 2,227 complaints from citizens regarding violations of the Law of Ukraine "On the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language" in the first three quarters of 2025.

The largest number of complaints about violations of language legislation came from Kyiv - 870 appeals (39% of the total), Odesa - 339 (15%), Kharkiv - 286 (13%), and Dnipro - 201 (9%) regions.

According to Olena Ivanovska, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, the increase in the number of complaints means that Ukrainians have become more attentive to their right to receive information and services in the state language. In particular, the number of complaints increased by 27% compared to the same period last year.

In August, it was reported that the highest number of violations was also found in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Dnipro regions.

In the first half of 2025, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language received 1,410 appeals from citizens, which is 348 more than in the same period in 2024.
