Police detained a 44-year-old resident of Kyiv in Odesa and served him with a notice of suspicion of influence peddling.
According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa region, he offered the conscript to be employed as a freelance agent in one of the units of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The position would provide reservations and the ability to move freely around the country and avoid the control of the territorial recruitment center. At the same time, there were no job responsibilities or salary.
The dealer promised to issue the client an alleged official ID and provide monthly travel letters on the performance of imaginary official tasks in the Odesa region. This way, the man would be able to stay at his place of residence and not move to another region. To be more convincing, he sent photos of documents that visually resembled the department's ID.
Instead of checking the knowledge and skills of the future agent, he asked for money in an envelope - 10 thousand dollars. He said it was a thank-you for influential people in the agency who would help him get recruited. He assured that he allegedly had strong ties to the SBU and could speed up mobilization to the army, so there was no need to delay the payment.
The offender came to the meeting, which took place under the control of SBU operatives, wearing a military uniform to convince him. The client handed over the fee to him, after which the position trader was detained by the police. If his guilt is proved in court and he is found guilty, the man faces imprisonment for a term of three to eight years with confiscation of property.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a deputy of a city council in Odesa region on suspicion of helping people liable for military service to obtain a medical deferral from mobilization.
