In Odessa, 100-meter-long flags were carried in support of prisoners of war and missing persons

In Odesa, a march was held on Ukraine’s National Flag Day in memory of all missing defenders of Ukraine, prisoners of war, and civilian captives.

According to an Intenta correspondent, as part of the event, participants carried two 100-meter-long flags through the city—the Ukrainian national flag and the black-and-white “Hope” flag. The march proceeded from Deribasovskaya Street to the Primorsky Stairs, where the flags were unfurled.

The event’s organizer, Viktoria—who is also the sister of a defender from the 14th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine—explained that the event was timed to coincide with National Flag Day, but its participants also wanted to honor those who are currently held captive or are considered missing in action.

According to her, the Ukrainian flag and the “Hope” flag must stand side by side today, because Ukrainian defenders go into battle under the blue-and-yellow banner, only to die or be taken prisoner. Afterward, their families and concerned citizens continue the fight for their return.

“The Flag of Hope is an integral part of us and a symbol of our national tragedy,” Victoria noted.

She emphasized that everyone must remember those who have died, been taken prisoner, or remain in captivity to this day.

According to the organizer, National Flag Day is not just a holiday but also a day of remembrance and tribute to those thanks to whom Ukraine continues to exist.

“We must remember the price paid for every day, every moment,” Victoria said.

The march, she said, also provided an opportunity to once again emphasize that Ukraine continues to fight for its survival.

Participants in the event called on people not to forget those missing in action, prisoners of war, and civilians held captive, and to continue the fight for their return.

Missing does not mean forgotten. Prisoners of war do not mean forgotten. Civilian prisoners do not mean forgotten.
