In Odesa region, intermediary in bribery of 5 thousand dollars is sentenced to probation instead of 5 years

The Podilskyi City District Court of Odesa Region approved an agreement between the prosecutor and the accused in organizing a bribe to a police officer for withholding information about a soldier who had left his place of service without permission.

According to the Center for Public Investigations, in April 2025, the accused turned to his friend, a military officer who had left the unit without permission, and told him that he was friends with the deputy head of the criminal police sector, who, in turn, could remove the military officer from the wanted list.

He promised his friend to arrange a meeting with his police friend, but in May, the soldier was invited to the police station to clarify the information. There he was informed of plans to hand him over to the State Bureau of Investigation. During the conversation, the police officer with whom the soldier was to meet came into the office and called him to his office, where he said that solving his problem would cost 5,000 USD.

After that, the military man was released and later handed over USD 1.7 thousand to the intermediary, who handed it over to the police officer. After that, both were detained.

The court sentenced the intermediary to five years in prison. However, the actual sentence was commuted to probation for two years.

In June, the Chornomorsk City Court of Odesa Region approved a plea agreement on kidnapping with the misappropriation of authority between a prosecutor and a member of a public organization who, together with his accomplices, posed as a member of the military of the TCC. The court sentenced the man to three years' imprisonment, but commuted his actual prison sentence to a two-year probationary period.
