In Odesa, law enforcement officers exposed a man who was selling positions in the army. For $35,000, he could not only avoid mobilization but also stop the trial for serious crimes.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police in Odesa region.
According to law enforcement officials, a 49-year-old man was detained who promised to help a local resident formally enlist in a military unit in exchange for $35,000. This "fake" employment was supposed not only to create the appearance of mobilization, but also to stop the trial of a serious criminal case against the client.
The offender claimed that he had influence on officials of the territorial recruitment center(TCC), the command of the military unit, and even the courts. In addition, he guaranteed that the mobilized person would not actually serve and would not be deployed to the combat zone.
Law enforcement officers detained the fraudster at a gas station while he was transferring money and documents. They seized cash and a cell phone with information important to the investigation.
The man has already been served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which is extortion and acceptance of bribes for influencing the decisions of officials. He faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
The court imposed a pre-trial restraint in the form of custody with the possibility of bail in the amount of over UAH 242 thousand. Investigative actions are ongoing, law enforcement officers are looking for all other participants in this criminal scheme.
