Mykolaiv has decided to re-profile the municipal enterprise ZHEK Soliani into a structure that will be responsible for the maintenance and management of social housing.
This became known during a meeting of the permanent deputy commission on housing and communal services of the Mykolaiv City Council.
According to Igor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Housing and Utilities Department, the city is facing a shortage of housing for citizens in need of better living conditions, as well as for professionals who are invited to work in Mykolaiv. To provide them with housing, it was decided to create a separate enterprise. Instead of spending money on creating a new structure, they will use the existing Soliani housing office, which is not actually functioning.
- Cancellation of the liquidation procedure of Soliani Housing Office. Earlier, in 2023, a decision was made to liquidate the company, but now this procedure will be stopped.
- Amendments to the charter. It is planned to approve a new version of the company's charter, possibly changing its name and functionality.
- Organization of social housing maintenance. The enterprise will be responsible for managing, servicing and maintaining housing in proper condition.
Social housing will be provided to two main categories of citizens:
- People who need to improve their living conditions. These are, for example, large families, people who have lost their homes, or those with other difficult life circumstances.
- Specialists invited to work in Mykolaiv. For example, doctors, teachers, or other important professionals who will be provided with housing for comfortable living in the city.
Social housing will not be subject to privatization, which guarantees its availability for future generations of people in need.
Mykolaiv is one of two Ukrainian cities participating in an international social housing project supported by a Danish private foundation. In the Soliani neighborhood, it is planned to build a residential building that will fully comply with the status of social housing.
"The project is currently supported by a private foundation from Denmark, which plans to finance the construction. In many cities of Ukraine, such enterprises are already successfully operating, and Mykolaiv will not stay away from this process," Nabatov said.
As a result of the discussion, the members of the Housing and Communal Services Commission unanimously supported the project to re-profile Soliani into a social housing management company. This decision will be the first step in implementing an important social initiative in Mykolaiv.
The Mykolaiv City Territorial Community also plans to raise significant funds to finance important infrastructure projects. These steps are aimed at increasing the efficiency of utility companies and improving infrastructure to improve the quality of life of city residents. This also includes modernizing transportation and infrastructure.
In addition, the city council has allocated about 28 million for the economic and social development of the city. It is planned to build two memorials, a columbarium, install loudspeakers, create an industrial park and digitize the city's topography.
Deputies of the Mykolaiv Regional Council adopted the Program of Economic and Social Development of Mykolaiv Region for 2025. It is planned to implement 150 investment projects.
