An agent of the Russian military intelligence (better known as GRU) was spying for the enemy in ten regions of Ukraine: Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad and Chernivtsi regions.

According to the SBU, the suspect was a 22-year-old resident of Kherson region who posed as a military man and moved around our country under this "legend". The offender took turns traveling around the regions by bus. In each of the regions, he tried to reconnoiter air defense locations, as well as the coordinates of military hospitals and other medical facilities where Ukrainian soldiers were undergoing inpatient treatment.

The traitor passed the information he received via messenger to the Russian secret service. After completing the agent's tasks, the occupiers promised to "evacuate" their accomplice to the aggressor country and employ him in the Wagner PMC. According to the case file, the defendant wanted to join this group to fight against Ukraine. The SBU thwarted the agent's plans and detained him red-handed while he was reconnoitering the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Mykolaiv.

A cell phone was seized from the detainee, on which he was preparing an agent's "report" and sending it to the Russian group's contacts. The SBU CI has already identified the names of the persons involved. SBU investigators served the agent a notice of suspicion of high treason committed under martial law. The offender is in custody without the right to be released on bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Earlier, Mykolaiv prosecutors completed an investigation into a resident of Ochakiv who passed information to the enemy about the location of Ukrainian military and equipment. Also, a man was tried in Yuzhnoukrainsk for working for Russian special services. He was accused of spying for Russia and sent to prison for passing on information about the location of Ukrainian military units.
